President's Message
Wow - May is almost here and my year as President ends with the installation of 2008-2009 Board on May 8. This year has gone by so fast. About the time I get comfortable, the ride is over.
I really appreciated everyone who served on 2007-2008 Board. I’m very grateful to Charlene, Jeff, Jessica, Ruth, Nita, and Brett for their contributions to the Board honed from years of experience and history with CFDD. Nick and Jackie brought new ideas and energy. While Skip wasn’t able to participate the entire year, I appreciated his quiet demeanor and his thorough notes. I relied alot on Diane and Marsha’s balanced input and suggestions.
A special Thank You goes to Barb Salazar—who takes our sometimes scattered contributions and manages to transform them into the Creditline you read each month. I’m amazed when I read the finished product as I’ve seen what she starts with. You do a great job Barb and we’re grateful for all you do!
I also want to thank Kathy Linscott and recognize all the support NACM gives CFDD. Can’t remember hearing “No, we can’t do that” when we asked for something. A couple of our programs would have fallen flat without the use of their projector and laptop. All the raffle prizes NACM donated contributed to our scholarship fund.
A year ago at installation, I said “CFDD exists because of you.” The reference was primarily a way to say Thank You to the past Presidents and others who have worked to keep CFDD a vital organization since 1931. But after my year as Portland Chapter President, I’m even more inspired by the commitment of CFDD members and am grateful for everyone who’s participated—some when asked and some who stepped up without being asked!
The rewards I’ve received from participating have far exceeded my contribution. There has been alot of press lately about “giving” - if my experience is any indication, you’ll get back far more from CFDD than you give. If you’re given the chance to participate on a committee or serve as committee chair, saying “No” will only deny yourself a great opportunity. There are many mentors in this organization and any job within CFDD you take on will be met with support and encouragement.
Make sure you attend the Installation of 2008-2009 Board so you can personally congratulate them and offer your support. The energy, enthusiam, dedication, resources, and experience they have will help to grow this chapter. I’m looking forward to a great year under their direction.
Thank you for a wonderful year—I’ve enjoyed serving as your Chapter President.
